The Carmen Thyssen Museum Andorra presents its 3rd exhibition: “Femina Feminae: the muses and collectors. From Piazzetta to Delaunay.”
This year, the Carmen Thyssen Museum Andorra’s new exhibition is generating enthusiasm and excitement by presenting a space where the female figure is the sole and absolute protagonist!
With this third edition, more than ever, the museum is concentrating on the Andorran art market, exposing works with a much deeper meaning, and paying homage to women as art collectors and muses, painters and artists.
The orphic cubist work, “Portuguese Woman” by Delaunay—a large-scale oil on canvas—will be the star of the exhibition and, along with “Reclining Nude Shepherdess”, the piece by unique female artist Berthe Morisot, will be used to promote the museum’s 3rd edition of this exhibition.
“Femina Feminae: the muses and collectors” will be the museum’s “most varied and ample” edition, presenting 28 pieces in total: 26 paintings on canvas, and for the first time in the museum’s history, the contribution of two bronze sculptures, “Nude in Repose”, one of the few sculptures Henri Matisse made before turning to painting, and “The Slave” by sculptor Josep Clarà from Olot, Catalonia.
Finally, you can also see such unique and curious works as the “Beach Scene” by the American, Winslow Homer, who was subject to heavy criticism, and “Portrait of a Scottish Girl,” a two-sided canvas assembly by the German, Conrad Felixmüller, in which you can appreciate two styles of art: on one side, the cubist portrait of “Elfriede Huasman” and on the other, “Portrait of a Scottish Girl”, painted 12 years later in the expressionist style.
